Vash the Stampede is the main protagonist of Trigun (1998 anime) and Trigun: Badlands Rumble.

Biography

1998 anime

Badlands Rumble

Character

Appearance

Vash is tall and lanky, with blond hair that stands on end. He wears a long red duster that covers a black leather bodysuit. He also has a pair of glasses with round orange lenses and arms that are crimped into a "W" shape.

Beneath his clothes, Vash is covered in scars. His entire left arm is also a prosthetic.

Personality

Vash comes across as very goofy and playful, often managing to engage in games with the local children of whatever town he's in. He's also a kind-hearted man, trying his best to defend the weak and help those in need. However, Vash carries within him a great sorrow and a lot of anger, and as the series progresses he has to fight hard to keep this in check. Vash abhors the taking of a life, be it through suicide or homicide, and goes out of his way not to directly kill anyone (until his hand is literally forced).

Occupation

Various things: pacifist gunman, bodyguard-for-hire, hunter of love.

Family

Vash has one brother, Millions Knives, from whom he is estranged. Rem Saverem served as his adoptive mother.

Relationships

Rem Saverem

Vash's relationship to Rem is primarily that of mother-and-child.

Millions Knives

His relationship with Knives is that of an estranged sibling.

Legato Bluesummers

Vash's relationship to Legato and the Gung-Ho-Guns is that of a target, or prey.

Nicholas D. Wolfwood

Wolfwood ends up becoming like the brother that Vash never really had.

Meryl Stryfe

Vash's relationship with Meryl starts off relatively antagonistic but over time becomes a deep, mutual respect. It is unclear if his feelings for her are romantic, though the series' writing seems to lean a bit in that direction.

Milly Thompson

Vash and Milly have an amicable relationship, though it isn't very personal.
