Rai-Dei the Blade is a Gung-Ho Gun who appears in Trigun (1998 anime) and Trigun Maximum.

Biography

1998 anime

Nothing much is known about Rai-Dei's past, other than the fact that he trained under the masters of the Ito School in their fighting style. In the present day, Rai-Dei the Blade is first introduced with the other Gung-Ho Guns at Jeneora Rock. Later on, he appears in the city of Augusta to challenge Vash to a fight after killing would-be competitor E.G. Mine. Rai-Dei is disgusted by Vash's lack of interest in fighting him, but he is also frustrated because if Vash won't fight him, then he can't achieve the supposed enlightenment that comes with facing the fear of death.

Rai-Dei backs Vash up against a wall and reveals that his katana also contains a gun by firing a few shots. Vash's Angel Arm begins to activate, courtesy of Legato, which surprises Rai-Dei and then begins to frighten him. He doesn't know what is happening and begs for an explanation. Instead, Rai-Dei unwittingly ends up getting a front-row seat to the destruction of Augusta. He miraculously survives, only to be shot dead by Nicholas D. Wolfwood when he tries to appeal to Wolfwood to help him stop Vash (who has disappeared by this time).
