"Sound Life" is an insert song from the 1998 Trigun anime, notable for being Rem's favorite song.

History

"Sound Life" was Rem's favorite song and she often sang it. Knives commented that she must like that song, said that it popped into her head whenever she felt happy. Knives replied that he thought it was a nice song.REM SAVEREM

Whilst unconscious aboard the sand steamer Flourish, Vash dreamed about Rem, she was singing "Sound Life."B. D. N.After the Flourish was stopped from falling of Enora Cliff, Kaite and Vash went atop the sand steamer to watch the sunrise. Kaite began singing "Sound Life," which surprised Vash. Kaite became defensive, thinking that Vash was mocking him, saying it was an old song but that it was good and he liked it. Vash agreed that it was a good song, and Kaite continued singing. Vash thought of how Rem loved the song and began to cry. Kaite stopped singing and yelled at Vash for making fun of him.AND BETWEEN THE WASTELAND AND SKY...

When Vash was moments away from killing Monev, he suddenly thought of Rem and her singing "Sound Life" as he pulled his gun back while weeping.[note 1]DIABLO

One night while recovering from his injuries, Vash sat under the stars and began quietly singing "Sound Life" to himself. Meryl began singing along as she walked over to join him. Surprised, Vash stopped singing and Meryl continued singing the verse before sitting beside him.LIVE THROUGH

Translation[note 3]

So on the first evening a pebble from somewhere falls upon the world
on the second evening the children of the pebble join hands and compose a waltz
on the third evening the children of the waltz make waves upon the world
on the fourth evening the children of the waves spray upon the shore
on the fifth evening the pieces hit the world again and again
on the sixth evening the signal meets some travelers
on the seventh evening weightless ships travel to the heavens
on the eight morning a song from somewhere reaches my ears
Now in a new sky, a suite that describes everything can be heard

English

The English dub uses a translated version. It's unknown if the full song was translated, since only the first three lines appear in the anime.

So on the first evening a pebble from somewhere out of nowhere drops upon the dreaming world
on the second celestial evening all the children of the pebble join hands and compose a waltz
on the third celestial evening all the children of the waltz make waves upon the dreaming world
