Biography

1998 anime

Monev spent twenty years locked in a cellar being brutally trained as a fighter. DIABLO The man he thought to be his father was actually an agent.Vash the Stampede

One day, Monev was unexpectedly visited by Legato. Legato told him that he will be going after Vash the Stampede, which gave him a thrill.

Monev found Vash when he was locked up in jail and confronted him. He was disgusted to find that Vash didn't want to fight him. Monev tried to goad Vash into fighting back, but Vash was focused on getting the townspeople out of harm's way first and foremost. Seeing this, Monev killed some of the town's residents. Monev initially thought he'd killed Vash as well, and laughs triumphantly, declaring that at last, he was finally free to live the way he wanted to live. He was suddenly struck by multiple gunshots to his mask by Vash, who appeared from the rubble. Upon seeing Vash, Monev was stricken with fear, comparing Vash's glowing eyes to those of the diablo. Monev fled as the enraged Vash fired another shot at him.

Though he was now scared, Monev was determined to kill Vash. He faced Vash again outside the Planet Bank, and anticipated Vash's plan to use the vault door as a shield. However, he did not anticipate the explosive charge Vash had placed and the vault door was propelled forward at Monev, knocking him back. Vash jumped out from behind the vault door and Monev fired off a missile at Vash, who he assumed had no more bullets. Instead, Vash revealed his hidden arm gun, which he used to shoot the missile. The explosion knocked the gun out of Monev's arms, shattered his mask, and threw him to the ground. The stunned Monev was enraged when he realized Vash had a hidden gun he could have used all along.

Vash began walking towards him, furious that Monev had killed so many innocent people. Monev replied "who the hell cares?" only to be brutally kicked in the face. Vash pinned Monev to the ground with his arm gun pressed directly onto Monev's right eye, as he furiously shouted how because Monev was solely responsible for their deaths that he was also going to die. The terrified Monev began whimpering in fear, crying out for mercy. Vash suddenly froze before taking his gun away from Monev's eye, then began to cry. DIABLO

Monev, still pinned beneath the crying Vash, asked if he was going to shoot him. Vash instead asked where he could find his boss. Monev explains that he was "bought" and that this wasn't his fault. Vash got up and began to walk away. Monev told him "it's dangerous to be too trusting, what if [he] got up and shot [him] in the back?" Vash revealed he'd had his finger on the trigger of his gun the whole time, and that he "was not that trusting." and let Monev go free. Vash the Stampede

E.G. Mine murdered Monev and left his corpse pinned to a wall in Augusta, alongside Dominique the Cyclops. FIFTH MOON
