The opening animation is set to the song "H.T", composed and performed by Tsuneo Imahori.

Versions

Each episode (except for episode 2) has a unique version of the opening credits. Clips from the respective episode are shown from 0:56-1:06.

From episodes 1 through 17, a wanted poster for Vash is shown during the opening, which is replaced by an evacuation poster from episodes 18 through 26.

TV broadcast versions

An incomplete version of the opening animation was used on the initial airings of episodes 1-9, with 8 versions being included on the first 5 LaserDisc releases. These versions have incomplete and missing animation, with an additional segment of episode clips being shown from 0:10-0:20 in place of two animated sequences from the final.
